The axial speeds are up to 16 inches per second, which is four times faster than our traditional saws so you spend less time cutting air and more time cutting stone. On the X and Y axes we achieve this high speed with a unique 2-speed drive system. We use a high-speed gearbox for rapid traversing and a combination low-speed high-torque gearbox for cutting and precision tram movements. A magnetic clutch is used to engage one box or the other. On the Z axis we use a unique counter-balance system to assist a relatively small motor and ball screw to drive the axis with remarkable speed. A full Z axis move can be completed in about 2 seconds!

Sawing Systems' saws are widely regarded to deliver the fastest cutting speeds in the industry. A primary factor is the ability to deliver high torque to the blade. Bear Claw Saws are capable of a two-stage motor speed reduction to deliver the highest torque for the severest cutting applications that demand it. As usual, Sawing Systems uses standard 1750 RPM motors to drive the saw blade. These are readily available and deliver the most power for the lowest cost. We mount them high above the cutting zone to remove them from the harshest environment. This gives them the longest possible life.

Most saw manufacturers use arbor motors in which the spindle and motor are all in one. This makes for a simple saw construction but a premium is paid for this motor in terms of initial cost and performance and future maintenance and replacement. Chances are the extra cost of that motor is offset by other cost savings in the construction of the machine. Sawing Systems makes no such compromise.
